Jammu State Taxes Department Recovers ₹4.93 Crores in GST Penalties from Defaulters
The Jammu Division of the State Taxes Department in Jammu and Kashmir has successfully recovered a penalty amounting to 4.93 Crores in the period from April 2023 to December 2023 from defaulters of Goods and Services Tax (GST) who were found guilty of various violations under the GST Act.
According to an official release, a sum of 3.78 Crores was retrieved through diverse enforcement activities conducted between April and December 27, 2023, within the Jammu division. These activities targeted violations such as e-invoicing, stock discrepancies, and other noncompliance issues. An additional amount of 1.15 crores was collected through special inspections and enforcement drives carried out by the Special Task Force. Furthermore, cases involving potential tax liabilities exceeding 3.50 crores for defaulters are currently under scrutiny.
The statement highlights that the major sectors facing penalties include Metal Scrap, Electric and Electronics Goods, Motor Parts dealers, and suppliers of building/construction materials, among others.
Namrita Dogra, the Additional Commissioner of State Taxes, Administration & Enforcement in Jammu, commended the dedicated efforts of the team led by Deputy Commissioners and State Tax Officers in achieving these successful recoveries.
