Jammu Police Target Rohingya Assistance: FIRs and Document Seizures in Crackdown
Police in Jammu have taken legal action against several individuals accused of aiding Rohingyas by providing shelter and facilitating their access to government benefits. Seven First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed in various police stations, including Satwari, Trikuta Nagar, Bagh-e-Bahu, Channi Himmat, Nowabad, Domana, and Nagrota, following extensive searches conducted at different locations within the Jammu district.
The FIRs specifically target individuals suspected of helping foreign immigrants, particularly Rohingyas, in securing government benefits and accommodation. The searches, conducted in the presence of magistrates, targeted both Rohingya residences and the homes of those allegedly aiding them. During the operations, law enforcement seized illicitly obtained Indian documents, including PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, and bank-related documents.
A police spokesperson affirmed, “An investigation into the matter has commenced, and additional details will be disclosed in due course. Stringent action will be taken against all individuals found culpable in the future.”

The crackdown on Rohingyas has extended to Kishtwar district, where authorities registered a case the day before, uncovering fraudulently obtained documents such as Aadhaar cards. The case involves various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of important documents), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) at Dachhan police station.
Rohingyas, a minority group of Bengali-speaking Muslims from Myanmar, have faced persecution in their home country, prompting many to enter India illegally through Bangladesh and seek refuge in Jammu and other regions of the country.
