India’s G20 Presidency Recognized as Diplomatic Achievement of 2023: EAM Jaishankar
During the Rotary Institute 2023 event in Bengaluru, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar hailed India’s G20 presidency as the nation’s foremost diplomatic accomplishment of the year.
Emphasizing the significance of this achievement, he underlined not only the consensus reached but the substantive agreements made during the G20 summit.
Jaishankar lauded India’s ability to rally the world’s most influential nations towards a renewed commitment to sustainable development and green growth.
He highlighted the impact of this presidency, ensuring greater lending support from international institutions like the World Bank and IMF.
Comparing the G20 to a “World Cup of diplomacy,” he stressed its importance as a platform where major global players converge.
He mentioned the significant role played by India in bridging divides and finding common ground among nations that previously struggled to reconcile their differences.
The 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit held in New Delhi on September 9 and 10 culminated in the unanimous adoption of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, showcasing the collective determination of G20 leaders to confront global challenges in an inclusive and decisive manner.
Assuming the G20 Presidency on December 1, 2022, Jaishankar underscored the foundation laid by India’s past decade, attributing it as a building block for future endeavors.
He acknowledged the diverse spectrum of challenges, opportunities, and achievements experienced over the last ten years, indicative of the nation’s multifaceted progress and aspirations for the future.
Furthermore, Jaishankar reflected on India’s resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, commending the nation’s swift response and the capacity of its healthcare system to cope with the crisis effectively.
