Indian Navy’s Prasthan Exercise Enhances Coastal Security Preparedness
The Indian Navy conducted its bi-annual exercise, Prasthan, in the Western Offshore Development Area off Mumbai, focusing on validating measures for oil production platform contingencies. The R12A (Ratna) platform of ONGC served as the scenario location, emphasizing realistic simulations to evaluate stakeholder readiness.
Coordinated Response to Varied Contingencies
Initiated on December 8, 2023, the exercise comprised two phases, addressing security emergencies such as terrorist attacks, bomb threats, man overboard, medical evacuations, and oil spills. The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief activated the contingency plan, and the Crisis Management Committee facilitated a coordinated response involving defense, state, and civilian agencies.
Multi-Agency Collaboration and Anti-Sabotage Measures
The Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, ONGC, and other relevant agencies actively participated. Anti-sabotage teams were deployed to neutralize security threats in the simulated oil platform scenario.
Comprehensive Drill for Continuous Improvement
Ships, helicopters, and personnel from various organizations collaborated in a synergetic manner. The exercise provided a realistic setting to assess the preparedness of agencies and refine existing procedures. A detailed analysis will identify areas for improvement, ensuring a robust response to potential contingencies.
