Indian Navy’s Op Demo Showcases Maritime Prowess at Visakhapatnam
The Indian Navy orchestrated an awe-inspiring Operational Demonstration (Op Demo) at Rama Krishna Beach in Visakhapatnam, featuring a host of dignitaries including Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer. The event attracted thousands of citizens and officials from both Central and State Governments, spotlighting the Navy’s exceptional capabilities, according to an Indian Navy press release.
Commemorating Navy Day annually on December 4th, this year’s Op Demo was shifted to December 10 due to safety concerns stemming from Cyclone Michaung. It marked the Navy’s integral role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, particularly in the success of ‘Operation Trident.’
The Op Demo unfolded as a grand affair, showcasing tactical manoeuvres by warships, submarines, and an impressive display of air power, featuring fighter aircraft, reconnaissance planes, and helicopters. The Navy’s elite Marine Commandos (MARCOS) illustrated simulated combat operations against mock enemy targets, emphasizing precision and expertise. The event emphasized the participation of indigenous platforms, emphasizing the Navy’s commitment to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ or self-reliant India.
The grand demonstration concluded with a mesmerizing Beating Retreat by the Navy’s Band during the Sunset Ceremony, creating a stunning visual spectacle with illuminated ship silhouettes.
Post the Op Demo, Vice Adm Rajesh Pendharkar, AVSM, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, hosted an eminent ‘At Home Function’ at Navy House, Visakhapatnam. This gathering provided an opportunity for interactions among flag officers, officers, civil dignitaries, and esteemed guests, fostering a deeper appreciation for the Navy’s accomplishments.
The Op Demo not only captivated audiences but also highlighted the Indian Navy’s steadfast commitment to excellence, safety, self-reliance, and the unwavering dedication to safeguarding the nation’s maritime interest.
