- Highlights concerns over pro-Pakistan elements and rise of pro-Khalistani activities in Canada.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar launched a scathing critique against Canada, accusing the Trudeau-led government of providing legitimacy to extremism, separatism, and advocates of violence under the guise of free speech. Jaishankar highlighted Canada’s issuance of visas to individuals linked to organized crime despite repeated warnings from New Delhi, pointing out the troubling trend of some Canadian politicians being influenced by groups with ‘pro-Pakistan leanings’ and pro-Khalistani sentiments.
Speaking at an event in Odisha, Jaishankar underscored the rise of pro-Khalistani activities in Canada and referenced the recent arrest of three individuals over their alleged involvement in the killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He expressed concern over Canada’s leniency towards individuals with dubious backgrounds, emphasizing the need for stringent action against those promoting violence and separatism.
The Indian government has been vocal in its criticism of Canada’s handling of extremism and separatism, with Jaishankar urging Canadian authorities to reconsider their approach. The ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada underscore the complexities of international relations and the challenges posed by transnational extremism and terrorism.
