Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra highlighted significant headway in discussions for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Oman. He revealed that despite the recent commencement of negotiations, substantial progress has been achieved in the latest rounds of talks, with both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sultan Haitham bin Tarik stressing the need to expedite the agreement’s conclusion.
During the high-level meetings between Prime Minister Modi and Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the CEPA emerged as a key focus area, receiving dedicated attention and a push for early finalization. Kwatra emphasized the leaders’ determination to expedite the process.
Kwatra, in a special press briefing on Sultan Haitham’s visit to India, underscored the Sultan’s state visit accompanied by a substantial delegation comprising his Deputy Prime Minister for Defence, seven Cabinet ministers, and three Vice Ministers. The visit reflects the significance both countries attach to fostering bilateral relations.
The Sultan’s visit included a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, symbolizing the respect and honor accorded to Oman’s dignitary during his stay in India.
Briefing about the Sultan’s schedule for the day, Kwatra mentioned the ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the morning and a state banquet hosted in his honor by the Honourable Rashtrapati in the evening.
The Sultan’s visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral ties between India and Oman, demonstrated by the emphasis on discussions for the CEPA and the dignitary’s warm reception by Indian officials upon arrival in Delhi for the three-day state visit.
