If ‘quiet luxury’ was a proposal, it would happen at one of these Irish spots

Forget the big, flashy proposals – Gen Z is embracing a new approach: the quiet proposal.

‘quiet proposal’ is a low-key, intimate way to ask for someone’s hand in marriage, where the moment feels just that more intimate and authentic.

To help couples find the perfect spot for a quiet, romantic proposal, Diamonds Factory Ireland has analysed TripAdvisor and uncovered 10 of the top-rated scenic locations across the Emerald Isle that are truly picture-perfect.

Top 10 Romantic spots to ‘quietly propose’ in Ireland

  1. Giant’s Causeway, Antrim

Being Northern Ireland’s most popular tourist destination, the Giant’s Causeway can get busy. However, if you go outside of high tourist season, you can find yourself practically alone with the sea and the stones – just be sure to bring sturdy boots!

Best time to go? Check local tide times before your visit, and aim for low to mid tide for the best access to the shoreline.

  1. Mussenden Temple, Derry

While a known landmark, Mussenden Temple is typically much quieter than other major tourist spots and offers a stunning backdrop of natural beauty. The temple’s classic architecture gives off the feel of a final, romantic movie scene. So if that’s the vibe you’re going for, this is the perfect spot.

Best time to go? Weekdays as its often quieter and gives you the best chance of getting that picture-perfect shot!

  1. Slieve League Cliffs, Donegal

Located in south west Donegal, along a spectacular coastal driving route, are Ireland’s highest Sea Cliffs, Sliabh Liag. Tucked away in a part of Ireland most visitors overlook, these cliffs are actually higher than Moher’s, but with far fewer crowds.

You can either hike up the scenic trails on foot or take a shuttle bus from the bottom. Once you reach the top, you’ll be mesmerised by the pristine blue water and sweeping skies. It’s hard to imagine a more breathtaking backdrop for getting down on one knee.

Best time to go? Go on a clear or partly cloudy day for the best views.

  1. Powerscourt Gardens, Wicklow

Powerscourt Gardens in County Wicklow was named No. 3 in the World’s Top 10 Gardens by National Geographic, and there’s no surprise why. With a magnificent Palladian-style mansion and 47 acres of formal landscaped gardens, this is a proposal setting fit for royalty, and one you’ll never forget.

Best time to go? April to August is when the gardens are at their most vibrant.

  1. Mourne Mountains, Down

Not every proposal has to happen at the very top of a mountain, and that’s the beauty of the Mourne Mountains. With 12 summits to choose from, there is no shortage of options when looking for a spot that truly resonates with you. Far from cliché, a proposal here, whether it’s over a picnic or during a peaceful hike, will feel completely your own.

Best time to go? April to October, as this is when you’re going to enjoy the driest and warmest weather.

  1. Coumeenoole Beach, Kerry

For those who are in awe of a beach view, this is the place for you. Far from the bustle of busy tourist spots, Coumeenoole provides the perfect secluded setting for a romantic moment, which makes it an ideal spot for a quiet proposal.

Best time to go? During the summer months, the warm sun can make the water appear almost tropical in colour.

  1. Lough Hyne, Cork

This list shows that Ireland is not short of a view, and Lough Hyne is yet another example of the country’s breathtaking beauty. A very popular spot for swimmers, kayakers and general water lovers, this spot exudes natural beauty. And if your proposal is sealed with a ‘yes’, why not celebrate by jumping off the pier into the Lough?

Best time to go? The best time to visit is between April and October, especially in the evenings when the kayakers have dispersed and the lough becomes quieter.
