Huawei Mate 70 Series: Anticipated Launch with Potential to Challenge iPhone 16 as Company Grows in Chinese Market
The anticipated Huawei Mate 70 series is poised for a launch later this year, although the company has not officially confirmed the lineup. Nevertheless, online leaks have surfaced, providing insights into potential features of the rumored smartphones, which are expected to succeed the Huawei Mate 60 series, comprising the Huawei Mate 60, Huawei Mate 60 Pro, Huawei Mate 60 Pro+, and Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate.
While the specifics of the lineup remain unverified, recent leaks suggest that the Huawei Mate 70 series might pose a formidable challenge to the forthcoming iPhone 16 lineup by Apple. Renowned tipster Smart Pikachu, translating from Chinese, shared on Weibo that Huawei intends to intensify competition by relying on domestic production and leveraging self-developed hardware and technology. This strategy aims to bolster Huawei’s standing as a market leader in China.
Huawei has witnessed growth in the Chinese market in recent quarters. According to a Counterpoint Research report, as of October, Huawei experienced an 83 percent sales surge, surpassing Apple’s 11 percent growth following the launches of the Huawei Mate 60 and iPhone 15 lineups. Another report by Counterpoint Research highlighted a 41 percent year-on-year increase in Huawei shipments in Q3 2023, propelled by the Kirin 9000s SoC-backed Mate 60 models.
This positive trend continued in the last quarter of 2023, with Huawei’s shipments escalating by 36.2 percent. In contrast, Apple faced a 2.1 percent decline in shipments on a year-on-year basis in Q4 2023, despite securing the largest market share at 17.3 percent. Analysts foresee a challenging year for Apple in the Chinese market.
Additionally, the tipster disclosed that Huawei aims for higher shipment volumes with the purported Mate 70 lineup, including the premium RS Ultimate model, surpassing volumes seen with earlier models. The Mate 70 series is anticipated to feature hybrid camera systems, incorporating a new one-inch primary camera with an expansive aperture for enhanced light processing capabilities. Moreover, a display upgrade with a quad micro-curved design is expected, offering various screen sizes akin to the iPhone models. The integration of AI features into the Harmony OS further enhances the anticipated offerings of the Mate 70 series.
As the smartphone landscape evolves, the Huawei Mate 70 series appears poised to make a significant impact, intensifying competition in the market.
