Gurez Achieves Historic Grid Connectivity, Ending Reliance on Diesel Generators
On a historic day for the Gurez sector in Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir, a significant development took place as the region was officially linked to the electricity grid, marking the first time since Independence.
Previously, Gurez heavily depended on diesel generator sets for its electricity needs, making it the sole area in the Valley to rely on such power sources, according to officials.
The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) proudly announced this achievement, revealing that Gurez now enjoys grid connectivity. Overcoming challenging terrain, the 33kV Line and RSTN Dawar were successfully charged, signifying a noteworthy milestone. The KPDCL highlighted the significance of this event, emphasizing that it brings electricity to the only part of Kashmir that had been reliant on DG sets.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, expressed his enthusiasm for this development, recognizing it as a historic day for Gurez. He acknowledged that the region had experienced isolation during winter months due to heavy snowfall. Sinha noted that the energization of the 33/11kV Receiving Station on this day would benefit approximately 1,500 consumers across various Panchayats.
Additionally, he mentioned ongoing efforts to connect all the villages in a phased manner, further extending the positive impact of this grid connectivity.
