
GMC Doda Observes World No Tobacco Day with Seminar Highlighting Health Risks of Tobacco
On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, a thought-provoking seminar was organized at Government Medical College (GMC), Doda on 31st May 2025 to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle.
The event commenced with an inspiring speech by the respected Principal of GMC Doda, Dr Rakesh Bahl, who emphasized the importance of observing this day and shared his insightful views on the devastating impact of tobacco consumption on individual and public health. He encouraged the youth to take a firm stand against tobacco addiction and become ambassadors of change in the society.
Following the inaugural address, Prof. Yunus, Head of the Department of Dental Sciences, delivered an informative presentation that highlighted the various health risks associated with tobacco use, with a special focus on oral cavity cancers. His presentation, rich in visuals and research-backed data, gave a detailed account of how tobacco affects not only the lungs and heart but also plays a major role in the development of oral and dental diseases, including cancer.

The seminar continued with passionate speeches by students who shed light on the physical, psychological, and social consequences of tobacco addiction. Adding a creative touch to the event, students also participated in a poster presentation session, where they displayed artistic and impactful posters related to the theme. These posters conveyed powerful messages about the dangers of tobacco use and were appreciated for their creativity and clarity.
The seminar concluded on a motivational note, leaving a lasting impact on all attendees.
The event successfully ignited awareness, inspired commitment, and reinforced the critical message that “Tobacco kills – choose life over addiction.”
