Several countries, including Nigeria, Philippines, Argentina, and Egypt, have expressed interest in procuring the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, according to CB Ananthakrishnan, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Talks are underway with these nations for potential procurement.
Challenges in Supplying to Argentina
Discussions also touched upon the potential supply of Tejas jets to Argentina, which faces challenges due to certain components being sourced from the United Kingdom. Overcoming restrictions imposed post the Falklands War is a consideration in facilitating military hardware supply.
Tejas: India’s Air Power Mainstay
The Tejas, a single-engine multi-role fighter aircraft, is designed for air defense, maritime reconnaissance, and strike roles. With nearly 40 Tejas already inducted, it serves as a key component of the Indian Air Force. Ongoing procurement deals and global interest highlight its significance in India’s air power.
