Srinagar: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed concerns on Thursday over the resurgence of terrorism in the Jammu region and demanded strong measures to curb the menace.
Speaking to reporters in the Banihal area, Azad highlighted the potential threat to peace and the thriving tourism sector due to the resurgence of militancy.
Azad recalled that during his tenure as chief minister, militancy in the Jammu region was nearly non-existent. He acknowledged the government’s current efforts to tackle militancy but insisted that additional measures are essential to completely eradicate it.
“The persistence of militancy will adversely affect both peace and tourism,” Azad stated. He emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir yearn for peace, making it imperative for the government to initiate measures that promote trust and goodwill among the populace.
The DPAP leader suggested that the government adopt a strategy similar to the one used in earlier times, which achieved peace through constructive efforts and positive engagement.
“We hope the current government will adopt a similar strategy to bring stability and tranquillity to the region,” he added.
Azad also underscored the importance of informed voting and cautioned against emotional appeals and misinformation. He noted that many elected representatives struggle to advocate effectively for their constituents in Parliament.
“People often vote based on emotions and misleading propaganda, but the reality is that their chosen representatives frequently fail to represent them effectively,” he explained.
He urged voters to choose capable and effective representatives who can genuinely serve their interests, advocating for a shift in voter mentality towards selecting leaders who can raise their voices and drive development.
