Fraudster impersonating Tripura CM Manik Saha’s office staff apprehended
Agartala (West Tripura) [India], April 23 (ANI): Tripura Police on Monday arrested a fraudster for masquerading as an official of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s office and attempting to defraud people under false pretence.
The accused has been identified as Pallab Nag, a resident of Agartala city’s Bijoy Kumar Chowmuhani area, a police official said.Speaking to ANI, Officer in Charge West Agartala Police Station Paritosh Das said that the accused person had called the editor of a local media channel and asked for two mobile phones. He used a false identity to introduce himself to the senior journalist.
“Yesterday, at around 12 o’clock in the afternoon, we received information that one person, using his false identity, made a request to senior journalist Pranab Sarkar asking for two mobile phones for Lok Sabha election coverage. He told the news channel editor that he was calling from the CM’s secretariat,” Das told ANI.
He further said that cops deployed in plain clothes arrested the accused. Accordingly, we chalked out an operation and let him come to the spot to take the mobile phones. When he arrived to receive the phones he had demanded, he was arrested by the cops deployed there in plain clothes,” he further said.
The accused is being produced before the court on Tuesday with a prayer of seven-day police remand. According to the police, a specific case under Indian Penal Code sections 419, 420/5/11 and 66D of the Information Technology Act was registered against the accused person.The investigation into the matter is still underway. The officer in charge said that he would be properly interrogated after being taken into custody to ascertain whether he was operating alone or whether there was an organised gang involved in the whole incident.
