Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan and Wife to be Indicted in Iddat Case
A local court in Pakistan has announced its intention to indict former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case on January 10, as reported by Pakistan-based Dawn. The decision on framing charges against the couple will be made during the upcoming hearing, stated Senior Civil Judge Qudrat Ullah during the proceedings at Adiala Jail.
The complaint, filed by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Farid Maneka, led to this legal development. In the court session, Bushra Bibi, accompanied by her legal team, and Imran Khan were provided copies of the Nikkhahnama, divorce deed, and the complaint. The court distributed these documents and adjourned the proceedings until January 10.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s marriage in February 2018 in Lahore, conducted in the presence of close relatives, was solemnized by Mufti Saeed, with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Awn Chaudhary and Zulfi Bukhari as witnesses.
Chaudhry, a former close associate of Khan, testified that the marriage occurred on January 1, 2018. Prior to this, Imran Khan had been married twice—first to Jemima Goldsmith in 1995, ending in divorce in 2004, and then to Reham Khan, whose marriage dissolved ten months after a public ceremony in January 2015.
Additionally, an additional district and sessions judge extended Bushra Bibi’s pre-arrest interim bail in six cases, including charges related to a fake receipt of Toshakhana gifts and FIRs lodged against her in various police stations regarding protests held in March 2023, extending her bail till January 16.
