Fighter movie review: Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s “Fighter” Soars with Adrenaline-Packed Aerial War Drama and Patriotism
Bollywood continues its fascination with India-Pakistan narratives, and Siddharth Anand’s latest film, “Fighter,” takes the genre of war drama to new heights. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone as top combat aviators, the film, touted as India’s first aerial action movie, offers an immersive experience with a near-perfect screenplay that keeps audiences engaged. While not flawless, the movie’s attention to detail in action and execution outshines its predictable plot and average dialogues.
Entering “Fighter” with expectations of a chemistry-driven narrative, I was pleasantly surprised to find the film paying homage to the unwavering courage of the Indian Air Force. The storyline, co-written by Anand and Ramon Chibb, skillfully blends action, emotion, patriotism, music, humor, and a touch of romance. However, the plot’s predictability diminishes the impact of potential big reveals, and the clichéd dialogues detract from the overall experience.
The film’s strength lies in its smooth screenplay, captivating aerial combat sequences, and Satchith Paulose’s commendable cinematography, showcasing breathtaking locales. Despite a well-engaging first half, the film falters in the second half with forced segments, redeeming itself only in the last 20 minutes during an enthralling climax.
“Fighter” boasts stellar performances from the entire cast. Hrithik Roshan, with his unmatched swag and charismatic presence, dominates the screen. Deepika Padukone delivers a convincing performance, showcasing her prowess in high-octane action. Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, and Akshay Oberoi contribute commendable performances, adding depth to their characters.
While the antagonist’s introduction is impactful, Rishabh Sawhney’s portrayal lacks the menace expected in a war drama. Despite this, “Fighter” remains a full-on entertainer, balancing patriotism without resorting to chest-thumping clichés. The film, released on January 25, offers a visually appealing, adrenaline-pumping experience, making it a worthwhile watch for its engaging performances and gravity-defying aerial action.
