Fatal Explosion at Manipur University Claims One Life
A fatal incident occurred in Imphal, Manipur, on Friday, where one individual lost their life and another sustained injuries in an explosion within a university compound. Authorities suspect the blast resulted from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Promptly, emergency services transported the victims to a private hospital, but unfortunately, one couldn’t survive, while the other remains in critical condition.
This unfortunate event takes place amidst Manipur’s ongoing struggle with the aftermath of a prolonged ethnic conflict that ignited in May of the previous year. The conflict originated from a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ held in the hill districts, opposing the Meitei community’s pursuit of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
