SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah urged India to be highly vigilant regarding the unfolding political situation in Bangladesh.

Abdullah made this call on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for India to monitor the developments closely, especially following the resignation and subsequent departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh.

In his remarks to reporters, Abdullah stressed the importance of careful observation as the political dynamics in Bangladesh have shifted.

“Now the eastern front has opened. We should be extremely careful and we should watch the situation with great care,” he said.

Despite the current turmoil, Abdullah expressed optimism about the future stability of Bangladesh and its relationship with India. He expressed hope that Bangladesh would overcome its present crisis and continue to maintain a friendly relationship with India.

“I hope it will resolve, I hope they are going to get over this crisis, and that they will maintain a cordial relationship with our nation,” he noted.

Abdullah also reflected on the long-standing issues contributing to the crisis in Bangladesh. He cited persistent unrest and severe economic difficulties as significant factors leading to the current political upheaval.

“There has been unrest for many years in Bangladesh and unemployment has been one of the major factors. The economic condition of the country was also very bad, leading to the government’s downfall,” Abdullah said.

He warned that dictators should be aware that they might face similar challenges as seen in Bangladesh.

Regarding the Election Commission of India’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah stated that assembly election dates should be established promptly.

“They ought to come, they will come and election dates will be fixed, nothing bigger than that, that is their job,” he concluded.
