ED Summons AAP Goa President in Liquor Policy Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued summons to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa president Amit Palekar, along with others, in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy case. Apart from Palekar, individuals including Ramarao Wagh, Datta Prasad Naik, and Ashok Naik, president of Bhandari Samaj, have been summoned to join the investigation the following day.
AAP sources have refuted the allegations made by the ED, stating that Datta Prasad Naik and Ashok Naik are not AAP leaders but belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). They accused the ED of spreading misinformation, branding it as a political tool of the BJP.
Delhi High Court’s Notice on Kejriwal’s Arrest
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest and the ED remand granted by the trial court. The court, while deferring the matter to April 3, highlighted that any release order from custody would essentially grant bail or interim bail, as the writ jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution of India is not a substitute for bail under Section 439 of the Cr.P.C.
Additionally, the Delhi High Court is set to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the removal of Arvind Kejriwal from the position of Chief Minister of Delhi. The bench is scheduled to convene on Thursday to address the matter.
Background on Kejriwal’s Arrest
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case linked to alleged irregularities and money laundering. He was remanded to the ED till March 28, with the case revolving around the framing and implementation of the Delhi excise policy in 2022, which was subsequently annulled.
