EC Shifts Rajasthan Assembly Poll Date to November 25
The Election Commission has made the decision to move the polling date for the Rajasthan assembly elections from November 23 to November 25. This decision was made in light of the significant number of weddings and social engagements scheduled for November 23. The Election Commission received representations from various political parties and social organizations, all of which highlighted the potential inconveniences and reduced voter participation due to these large-scale events.
The Election Commission stated that the change of the polling date was necessary to address these concerns and logistical issues. Shifting the date from November 23, 2023 (Thursday) to November 25, 2023 (Saturday) is expected to help mitigate these challenges and ensure a more robust voter turnout.
The counting of votes for the Rajasthan assembly elections will proceed as originally scheduled on December 3, along with the counting for four other state assembly elections.
Adjusting the Date for Voter Convenience
The Election Commission’s decision reflects its commitment to accommodating the needs of the citizens and ensuring that their right to vote is exercised conveniently and without hindrance. This change in the polling date acknowledges the social importance of large-scale events like weddings and their potential impact on voter participation.
Election Schedule for Multiple States
The Election Commission had recently unveiled the assembly poll schedules for multiple states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram. The adjustment in the Rajasthan polling date is a response to the specific circumstances in the state, demonstrating the Election Commission’s flexibility and adaptability to promote a smooth and inclusive electoral process.
