East Turkistanis Join Tibetans in WH Protest Against Xi Jinping

ETGE and ETNM unite with Tibetan allies outside White House to demand President Trump confront Xi Jinping

September 25, 2026 WASHINGTON, D.C. — The East Turkistan Government-in-Exile (ETGE) and the East Turkistan National Movement (ETNM) joined Tibetan organizations and a broad coalition of groups oppressed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in demonstrations outside the White House on Thursday. Together, they called on President Donald J. Trump to press Chinese President Xi Jinping on genocide, political prisoners, and China’s ongoing occupation.

The joint mobilization took place during Xi’s three-day state visit to Washington.

Demonstrators from East Turkistani, Tibetan, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese communities united to demand an end to CCP authoritarianism, military occupation, and human rights atrocities across their respective homelands.

“President Trump should make clear to Xi Jinping that genocide, colonial occupation, and the exploitation of our homeland cannot be separated from the strategic challenge China poses to the United States,” said ETGE President Dr. Mamtimin Ala.  “Ending the genocide requires confronting the occupation that sustains it and supporting the restoration of East Turkistan’s national independence.”

“Beijing’s power is built on occupied East Turkistan,” said Salih Hudayar, Foreign Minister of the East Turkistan Government-in-Exile and President of the East Turkistan National Movement. “No deal with Xi Jinping is legitimate if it leaves our people in chains and our country under occupation.”

The ETGE and ETNM emphasized that the atrocities in the region are not a local policing issue, but the direct result of China’s military occupation. Standing alongside fellow groups targeted by the CCP, the two organizations called on President Trump to:

• Raise the occupation of East Turkistan directly in his meetings with Xi Jinping.
• Demand the immediate release of Gulshan Abbas, Ilham Tohti, Rahile Dawut, Ekpar Asat, and all arbitrarily detained East Turkistanis.
• Reject any agreement that weakens forced-labor restrictions, sanctions, or accountability mechanisms.
• Affirm the East Turkistani people’s right to self-determination and the restoration of national independence.
• Treat East Turkistan as a core strategic issue, rather than a secondary human-rights note.

Thursday’s demonstration outside the White House was intended to ensure that Xi Jinping could not visit Washington without hearing a unified message of resistance.

The East Turkistan Government-in-Exile and the East Turkistan National Movement expressed their deep solidarity and gratitude to their Tibetan partners and all allied groups oppressed by the CCP who stood together in unity.
