Earthquake in Nepal 128 dead, 140 injured
A powerful earthquake struck a remote region of Nepal, resulting in a tragic toll of over 120 fatalities and at least 140 reported injuries, according to officials’ reports on the early morning of November 4.
The seismic event sent noticeable tremors rippling across considerable distances, with residents in India’s capital, New Delhi, situated nearly 500 kilometers away from the earthquake’s epicenter, feeling moderate vibrations. In response to the disaster, Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal, also known as ‘Prachanda,’ quickly dispatched a medical team to the affected area on Saturday morning.

The authorities have initiated a coordinated effort to address the aftermath of the earthquake. Both the Nepal Army and Nepal Police forces have been mobilized to undertake rescue and relief operations, as confirmed by official sources.Nepal is positioned along a significant geological fault line where the Indian tectonic plate collides with the Eurasian plate, giving rise to the majestic Himalayan mountain range.
Consequently, earthquakes are a recurrent natural phenomenon in this region. Notably, in 2015, a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake claimed the lives of nearly 9,000 people in Nepal and led to the destruction of over half a million homes.
Tragically, in November 2022, the Doti district, near Jajarkot, experienced another seismic event with a magnitude of 5.6, resulting in the loss of six lives. These occurrences underscore the ongoing seismic risks that the region faces.
