
Pakistan losses to NZ In Ist ODI; Chapman Steals the Show
New Zealand’s batter Mark Chapman steals the show with a classic performance, scored career-best 132 against Pakistan in the first One Day International Cricket match in Napier. A four wicket haul of Nathan Smith added feathers into the victory of New Zealand by 73 runs.
Earlier, Pakistan put kiwis into bat first, and recieved a target of 345 runs to win the first game of the series. For New Zealand, Chapman who was dropped by Salman Agha costed Pakistan heavier scored 132 runs, followed by Dary Mitchell 76(84), and Muhammad Abaas 52(26).
For Pakistan, Haris Rauf remained economical and picket a couple.
Chasing down a high score, Pakistan got a good start as Usman Khan and Abdullah Shafique opened the innings and gave a stand of 83 runs. Usman fall prey to Nathan Smith for 39, and Abdullah Shafique got out for 36 runs on the bowling of Michael Bracewell.
Babar Azam keeps the hope alive, as one sided the middle order again miserly failed with Rizwan’s 30 runs, and no contribution from Tayyab Tahir and Irfan Khan. Salman Agha was the last hope after Babar Azam in a bid to release the pressure, got out for 78(83), whereas Agha scored 58(48) runs.
For New Zealand, Nathan Smith was the pick of the bowler, returned with figures of 10-1-60-4. Mark Chapman was declared as Man of the Match for the brilliant knock.
As worse fielding by the team, to catch dropping, and 43 extras, Pakistan overall lapse cost them a crucial match.
Pakistan will take on New Zealand in second ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton on April 02, 2025.
