Delhi’s Rs 850 Crore Land Scam: CBI Steps In
The Delhi Government has escalated the investigation into the alleged Rs 850 crore land acquisition scam linked to the Dwarka Expressway project, referring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This significant development occurred just a day after Delhi’s Vigilance Minister Atishi presented a detailed preliminary report to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Chief Secretary’s Alleged Involvement and ED’s Probe
The report centers around the alleged involvement of Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar. It accuses him of manipulating compensation for land in Bamnoli village to illicitly benefit a company associated with his son, Karan Chauhan. Additionally, the Aam Aadmi Party sources revealed that a related 2015 land acquisition at a rate of 7 per cent circle rate by the same company has been flagged to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for a potential money laundering investigation.
Incendiary Findings in the Preliminary Report
The preliminary report, spanning 670 pages, presents numerous damning facts. It suggests a prima facie complicity of Naresh Kumar with DM Southwest Hemant Kumar and the landowners in the Dwarka Expressway land acquisition. The report further alleges a conspiracy by senior officers, including Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, to understate the scam’s magnitude as Rs 312 crore, whereas the actual illicit gain amounts to Rs 850 crore.
Recommendations for Disciplinary Action
In light of these findings, Atishi recommended disciplinary action against both Naresh Kumar and Ashwani Kumar, the Divisional Commissioner. Furthermore, she advised the immediate removal of these officials from their positions to prevent any influence on the ongoing investigation.
The referral of this case to the CBI and ED marks a critical step in unraveling the complexities of this high-profile land scam in Delhi, highlighting the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
