Delhi experienced its lowest minimum temperature of the season today, with the mercury dipping to 9.2 degrees Celsius, which is two notches below the season’s average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts clear skies throughout the day, with the maximum temperature expected to be around 26 degrees Celsius.

Concerning Air Quality Levels

Despite the cooler temperatures, the city’s air quality remains a significant concern. As of 9:30 am, Delhi’s air quality was recorded at 373, which falls in the “very poor” category. Out of 38 monitoring stations of the Central Pollution Control Board, 15 recorded the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the “severe” category, while 22 stations reported “very poor” air quality levels.

Understanding AQI Levels

The AQI is a tool used to communicate how polluted the air currently is or how polluted it is forecast to become. As per the AQI scale, a reading between zero and 50 is considered “good,” 51 to 100 “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 “moderate,” 201 to 300 “poor,” 301 to 400 “very poor,” and 401 to 500 “severe.” Delhi’s current AQI suggests significant air pollution, posing health risks to residents, especially those with respiratory issues.

The situation in Delhi highlights the ongoing challenges of balancing weather changes with environmental concerns, particularly in urban areas.
