Deadly Gun Attack in Srinagar, Claims Second Life as Injured Punjab Resident Succumbs to Injuries, Death Toll Reaches 2
The death toll from the recent terror attack in the Habba Kadal area of the city has increased to two, with the unfortunate demise of an injured worker from Punjab named Rohit Masih at SKIMS Hospital this morning, according to officials on Thursday.
Rohit Masih was transferred to the tertiary care institution late Wednesday night after his condition deteriorated at the SMHS Hospital, as reported by officials. This incident follows the death of another worker from Punjab, Amritpal Singh, who lost his life in a terrorist firing incident at Shalla Kadal in Habba Kadal on Wednesday, marking the first targeted killing of the year.
In 2023, terrorists executed three attacks targeting non-local workers, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to three others. On May 30, 2023, a circus worker from Udhampur district fell victim to terrorist gunfire in Anantnag district. Additionally, on October 31 of the same year, Mukesh Kumar, a brick kiln worker from Bihar, was fatally shot by extremists in Pulwama district. In a separate incident on July 13, three laborers sustained injuries in a terrorist attack in the Gagren area of Shopian district. The escalating violence against non-local workers underscores the persistent threat posed by terrorism in the region.
