
DC Samba Inaugurates Handicraft Exhibition.image/CTN
Today marked a momentous occasion as Abhishek Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner of Samba, officially opened a Sale and Exhibition of Handloom and Handicraft products at the Dina Nath Memorial Hall (Mahajan Hall).
This event was meticulously orchestrated by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), a part of the Ministry of Textiles under the Government of India, in collaboration with the Handicrafts Service Centre in Jammu.
The Deputy Commissioner graced the event as the chief guest, with the esteemed presence of Senior Superintendent of Police, Benam Tosh, as the Guest of Honour.
This gathering brought together a total of 25 exceptionally skilled artisans and weavers from various corners of the Jammu province, all gathered to showcase their remarkable creations available for purchase.
Marking an unprecedented occurrence in Samba, this exhibition will span a seven-day period from October 25, 2023, to October 31, 2023.Its core mission is to spotlight the cultural wealth encapsulated within the handicraft and handloom offerings from the region, spanning an array of crafts such as Hand Block Printing, Bamboo Craft, Grass Reef, Jute Craft, Soft Toys, Ceramic Work, Embroidery, and Crochet Craft.
The fundamental aim of this event is to offer a crucial platform to the local artisans, particularly those hailing from the lesser-explored and underserved districts within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.Anirudh Kapil, the Assistant Director of Handicrafts Service Centre in Jammu, extended a warm welcome in his opening remarks, while Pawan Raina, another Assistant Director, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks. The inauguration proceedings were skillfully conducted by Ambika Sambyal, Assistant Director (A&C), and were met with resounding success.
