Crackdown on Illegal Mining: 23 Vehicles Seized in Kathua District Operation
In a determined effort to curb illegal mining activities, the Geology and Mining department, led by District Mineral Officer Kathua Rajinder Singh, conducted day and night operations across multiple locations.
The operations resulted in the seizure of 23 vehicles engaged in illegal mining and transportation, comprising 5 dumpers, 8 heavy trucks from Punjab, and 10 tractor trolleys.
Additionally, 12 vehicles were penalized on the spot for exceeding the permissible load capacity.
This robust action aligns with the powers delegated under the MMDR Act of 1957 and SRO-105 of 2016, aimed at controlling unauthorized mineral activities.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr. Rakesh Minhas emphasized strict adherence to e-challans and prescribed documentation for all mineral-loaded vehicles.
