Congress Releases First List of Candidates for Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections

The Congress party has unveiled its initial list of 144 candidates for the forthcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. The list features prominent figures, including the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, and key members of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, such as Jitu Patwari, Jaivardhan Singh, Vijayalakshmi Sadho, and Lakshman Singh. Notably, the party’s Central Election Committee convened at the AICC office in the national capital to finalize these candidates.

    Notable Contestants and Background

Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, a prominent political figure, will be contesting from Chhindwara. In a notable move, Jaivardhan Singh, the son of former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, will be vying for the Raghogarh seat. This announcement is a significant development, considering the state’s political landscape and the recent upheaval that led to the collapse of the Kamal Nath government in March 2021.

    BJP’s Prior Announcements

It’s worth mentioning that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had already declared candidates for 136 out of the 230 assembly constituencies in the state, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who will be contesting from his traditional Budhni seat.

    Congress’s Bid for Power

The Congress party is actively pursuing a victory in Madhya Pradesh to regain political power from the BJP. This election is of utmost importance to both parties, with leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra holding numerous rallies in the state to drum up support.

    Election Details and Schedule

The Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections are set for November 17, with the state electing legislators from 230 Assembly constituencies in a single-phase election. The counting of votes will take place on December 3, and the political landscape in Madhya Pradesh is expected to undergo significant changes during this electoral process.
