Ensuring a Smooth and Transparent Electoral Process

In a bid to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pandurang Kondbarao Pole conducted a visit to Rajouri, where he closely examined the preparations for the upcoming 2023 Municipal Elections. The CEO’s visit included a comprehensive meeting with all nodal officers to discuss key issues related to the conduct of municipal elections.

Comprehensive Overview Presented

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal provided a comprehensive overview of the election preparations. Several crucial matters were deliberated upon, which are instrumental in conducting the municipal elections seamlessly.

Key Discussion Points

The meeting covered a wide range of topics, including updates on polling station readiness, the appointment of Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), progress in the training of election staff, distribution of election handbooks, the status of the employee database, the setup of control rooms, the action plan for printing of ballot papers, the transportation plan, security arrangements, the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) plan, procurement planning, and the establishment of counting and dispatch centers.

Ensuring Preparedness

Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal assured that all 65 polling stations had undergone thorough physical verification, and necessary facilities had been guaranteed. The appointment of ROs and AROs was being carried out in strict adherence to the guidelines issued by the Election Authority.

Training and Workforce Deployment

Regarding training, it was disclosed that the next phase is scheduled to commence on September 18, 2023, under the supervision of the nodal officer for training, PO ICDS Rajouri. Over 700 employees had been registered in the NIC Software, surpassing the actual requirement of 380. Locations for counting centers and receipt and dispatch centers had also been identified.

Security and Voter Awareness

CEO Pandurang Kondbarao Pole emphasized the critical importance of a robust security plan and directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri to deploy additional forces in sensitive and hypersensitive polling stations. He also underscored the need for contingency planning to address unforeseen circumstances and proposed a comprehensive SVEEP Plan to enhance public awareness about the electoral process and encourage greater voter participation.

On-Site Inspections

Following the meeting, CEO Pandurang Kondbarao Pole conducted on-site inspections at the Receipt Center and Counting Center, both located at Boys High Secondary School in Rajouri. These proactive engagements reflect the administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the success and integrity of the forthcoming Municipal Elections in the district.
