CBI Conducts Searches at Mahua Moitra’s Residences
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting searches at Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra’s residences and other locations in Kolkata regarding an alleged cash-for-query case.
Lokpal Orders CBI Investigation
Following Lokpal’s directive on Tuesday, the CBI was tasked with investigating all aspects of the allegations against Mahua Moitra in the ‘cash for query’ case. The Lokpal instructed the CBI to submit a report within six months and provide monthly status updates on the investigation.
Serious Allegations and Response
Lokpal emphasized the seriousness of the allegations against Moitra, stating that a deeper probe is necessary to establish the truth, considering the evidence presented. Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha last year after being found guilty by the ethics committee, denies any wrongdoing and attributes the accusations to her inquiries into the Adani Group’s dealings.
Legal Proceedings and Denial
Moitra’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha followed allegations that she accepted cash and gifts from a Dubai-based businessman in exchange for raising questions in Parliament. Despite her denial of the allegations, the Delhi High Court recently dismissed her plea to restrain BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and others from making further accusations in the cash-for-query case.
