New Delhi, Aug 9: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), a state-owned telecom provider, is set to roll out its 4G and 5G-compatible over-the-air (OTA) and Universal SIM (USIM) platform across India.
Developed in collaboration with Pyro Holdings, the new platform was inaugurated in Chandigarh, with a disaster recovery site in Trichy.
This innovative platform offers BSNL mobile subscribers the flexibility to choose their mobile numbers and replace SIM cards without being restricted by geographical boundaries.
It also facilitates modifications to SIM profiles and remote file management on SIM cards, making it a convenient option for customers.
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi A Robert Jerard emphasized the platform’s significance, noting that it allows SIM swaps to be performed anywhere in the country, providing users with unprecedented convenience.
The rollout of this platform aligns with BSNL’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its network to 4G and 5G, further establishing the company as a leader in telecommunications innovation.
This milestone is a crucial step in BSNL’s mission to bridge the digital divide, particularly in rural and remote areas, by ensuring equitable access to advanced telecommunications services.
Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently announced that BSNL plans to install 80,000 towers for 4G services by October 2024, with an additional 21,000 towers to be added by March 2025.
BSNL has already launched 4G services in select locations, including Punjab, using indigenously developed network equipment.
