BSNL Embarks on 4G Journey with Free SIM Upgrades and Data Offers
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India’s state-owned telecommunication giant, has made significant strides in upgrading its network capabilities. Earlier in May, the government announced BSNL’s initiation of 4G services rollout, setting the stage for a major technological upgrade. By the end of the year, the focus was to transition these networks to 5G. However, in a recent development at the India Mobile Congress, BSNL’s chairman P K Purwar outlined a revised plan. According to Purwar, BSNL is set to launch its 4G services in December, with a nationwide rollout expected by June 2024. The subsequent upgrade to 5G technology is scheduled to follow after June next year, marking a significant leap in the company’s digital infrastructure.
Promotional Offers to Boost 4G Adoption
In an effort to encourage the transition to 4G, BSNL’s Andhra Pradesh unit (@bsnl_ap_circle) announced an attractive offer on social media platform X. Existing BSNL users with 2G or 3G SIMs are eligible for a free upgrade to a 4G SIM. This initiative is not just about the upgrade; it also includes a bonus of 4GB free data, valid for three months. This promotion, first reported by Telecom Talk, appears to be a strategic move by BSNL to bolster its upcoming 4G service launch. The company’s aggressive marketing and customer-centric offers reflect its commitment to enhancing user experience and staying competitive in the rapidly evolving telecommunications market.
How to Avail the Offer
To take advantage of the free data and SIM upgrade, BSNL customers are advised to contact representatives at the nearest BSNL Customer Service Centre, franchisee, retailer stores, or reach out to Direct Selling Agents (DSA). An important note highlighted in the promotional image is that this offer comes with specific terms and conditions, which, as of now, remain unspecified.
Competitive Landscape: Jio’s New Feature Phone
In the backdrop of BSNL’s strategic moves, Reliance’s Jio has also been making waves in the market. The company recently introduced the Bharat B1 feature phone, equipped with 4G support and priced competitively at Rs. 1,299. This handset is not just about connectivity; it comes preloaded with JioCinema and JioSaavn applications, enhancing the user experience. Furthermore, the Jio Bharat B1 is integrated with the JioPay application, supporting UPI payments, and offers support for 23 languages, including multiple regional dialects, to cater to a diverse customer base.
