An incident of unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border (IB) in the Ramgarh sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district resulted in the tragic loss of a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan on an early Thursday morning, as reported by officials.

.This distressing event marked the third ceasefire violation in just 24 days by Pakistan Rangers along the IB in the Jammu frontier. The initial firing targeted Border Outposts within the district, and the BSF jawan sustained injuries, necessitating immediate evacuation to a local hospital. Later, the injured jawan was transferred to the GMC Hospital in Jammu. Regrettably, despite medical efforts, the jawan succumbed to his injuries.

In response to these unprovoked actions, the Border Security Force (BSF) released a statement indicating that during the night between November 8th and 9th, 2023, Pakistan Rangers engaged in unprovoked firing in the Ramgarh area. BSF troops promptly retaliated to the provocation. The Block Medical Officer (BMO) of the Ramgarh Community Health Centre, Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, confirmed that one BSF jawan had been wounded during the Pakistani firing incident and sought treatment at the center around 1 am.

Mohan Singh Bhatti, a resident of Jerda village, provided his account of the events, mentioning that the firing commenced around 12.20 am and escalated into shelling, creating a prevailing atmosphere of fear and unease along the International Border. A similar incident had occurred on October 28, when Pakistan Rangers had engaged in heavy firing and shelling for approximately seven hours, resulting in injuries to two BSF jawans and a woman.

Notably, on October 17, unprovoked firing by the Rangers in the Arnia sector had injured two BSF personnel. This event marked the sixth violation of the ceasefire agreement, signed by both sides on February 25, 2021, further highlighting the ongoing challenges faced in maintaining peace and stability along the International Border.
