New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to world leaders gathered at the G20 Summit in Delhi today, subtly hinting at the proposed name change from India to Bharat. This historic transformation was a focal point of discussions at the international event, as PM Modi embraced the new nomenclature.
A Land of Tradition and Democracy.
Bharat welcomes you,” PM Modi declared during his opening remarks at the G20 Summit. This statement marked the formal introduction of the nation’s revised identity to the global stage, reflecting its deep-rooted traditions and democratic values.
Bharat: The Mother Of Democracy.
The adoption of “Bharat” as the official name of the country was further emphasized in a G20 booklet specially crafted for foreign delegates. Titled “Bharat, The Mother Of Democracy,” the booklet showcased the historical significance of this name change. It underscored that “Bharat” had been the country’s official name, as enshrined in the Constitution and discussed during the critical years of 1946-48.
A Global Transition.
The global transition from “India” to “Bharat” was affirmed by the United Nations, as they expressed their commitment to update their records accordingly. United Nations Secretary General’s chief spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, stated, “When India completes the formalities to change the name, they will inform us, and we will change the name at the UN records.” This monumental change underscores the nation’s determination to embrace its rich heritage while moving forward.
From Trust Deficit to Global Confidence.
In his compelling opening remarks, PM Modi acknowledged the prevailing global trust deficit, exacerbated by the ongoing Ukraine war. He passionately called upon the entire world to transform this deficit into mutual confidence. PM Modi remarked, “This is a time when age-old challenges are calling for new solutions from us. And therefore, with a human-centric approach, we have to move forward to fulfill our responsibilities.”He further addressed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the urgency of bridging the trust deficit that has arisen in its wake. PM Modi expressed hope, stating, “When we can defeat Covid, we can also achieve victory over this trust deficit crisis.”
