Assam sees highest voter turnout at 81.71% in phase 3 Lok Sabha polls
Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 8 (ANI): Voting in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded on Tuesday across 93 Lok Sabha constituencies across 12 states and Union territories with Assam recording the highest voter turnout of 81.71 per cent, according to the data issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The third phase of voting was conducted in Guwahati, Dhubri, Barpeta and Kokrajhar constituencies on May 7.Voting percentages for other constituencies participating in the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls as per data are- Dhubri (86.80 per cent), Barpeta (82.02 per cent), Kokrajhar (80.44 per cent) and Guwahati (75.67 per cent).
Despite rain and thunder, voters from all four parliamentary constituencies came out and exercised their franchise.According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, voting was held in many polling stations in the state till night. A total of 47 candidates including six women candidates were in the fray in the third phase of polls in four parliamentary constituencies in the state.The first phase of polls for five parliamentary constituencies – Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Kaziranga was held on April 19.
The voting percentage in the first phase of polls was recorded at 78.25 per cent.The second phase of polls in five parliamentary constituencies – Silchar, Karimganj, Diphu, Nagaon and Darrang-Udalguri was held on April 26 and the polling percentage was recorded at 81.17 per cent.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family members cast their votes at the polling station of Amingaon High School in Kamrup district under the Barpeta Lok Sabha seat.”The polling was held smoothly and peacefully in all States/UTs across the three phases, which covered the entire north-eastern part of the country, including LWE-affected and vulnerable areas in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
The Commission, led by CEC Rajiv Kumar, along with ECs Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, kept a regular close watch on every aspect of the poll process. Stringent security measures were in place, creating a conducive environment for voters to cast their vote without fear or intimidation,” according to ECI press release.
The voter turnout in the 93 parliamentary constituencies that went to polls in the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was recorded at 64.4 per cent, according to the Election Commission of India. (ANI)
