Arunachal’s Sela Tunnel Nears Completion
Strategic Sela Tunnel Nears Completion in Arunachal Pradesh: In a significant development to enhance connectivity in the Eastern Sector of the Indo-China border, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has achieved a remarkable 90% completion rate for the strategically vital Sela Tunnel project in Arunachal Pradesh.
All-Weather Connectivity and Tourist Boost: Upon completion, the Sela Tunnel will become the world’s longest bi-lane tunnel, situated at an altitude exceeding 13,000 feet. This tunnel, consisting of two parts—Tunnel 1 with a length of 980 meters and Tunnel 2 with a length of 1,555 meters—will provide all-weather connectivity, benefiting the people of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, tourists visiting the region, and the armed forces.
Milestone in Infrastructure and Tourism:; The Sela Tunnel, located 400 meters below the Sela Pass, is poised to boost not only the region’s infrastructure but also its tourism potential. This infrastructure development will facilitate year-round passage, even during harsh winter conditions.
This significant achievement comes after the foundation stone for the Sela Tunnel was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 9, 2019, and construction officially commenced on April 1, 2019.
