Aru Village Wins 2024 Best Tourism Villages Award
On World Tourism Day, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India declared Aru village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam as one of the winners of the Best Tourism Villages Competition 2024.
The award celebrates the village’s success in preserving its natural beauty while promoting adventure tourism sustainably.
The Best Tourism Villages Competition began in 2023 to recognise villages that protect their cultural and natural heritage while focusing on sustainable tourism.
This year, the competition featured 991 villages from 30 states and Union Territories, with 36 villages winning in various categories. Aru distinguished itself by winning in the adventure tourism category, known for activities such as trekking, skiing, and camping.
“This award puts Aru on the map as a top destination for adventure tourism. We are dedicated to preserving the environment while welcoming tourists to experience the village’s natural beauty,” said an official.
Nestled in the Himalayan foothills, Aru is popular among tourists for its stunning views and outdoor activities. Local leaders also expressed their happiness about the award, emphasising the importance of protecting the environment while using tourism to support the local economy responsibly.
Aru is not just about adventure; it’s an example of how villages can blend traditional life with modern tourism,” said a local resident.
With this award, Aru is expected to attract even more tourists while continuing its commitment to sustainability and cultural preservation. (KINS)
