Omar Abdullah Criticizes BJP, Claims Party Nervous About JK Elections
National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming the party is nervous due to its dismal performance in the first two phases of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.
Abdullah, addressing a joint gathering of NC and Congress workers, said, “The BJP’s performance in the first two phases was unremarkable. Our internal reports suggest their candidate, Ravinder Raina, may lose his seat in Nowshera constituency. This has left them rattled.”
He criticized the BJP for spreading misinformation, claiming that if the NC forms the government, terrorism will revive. “This is a blatant lie,” Abdullah said. “We had eradicated terrorism from Jammu before 2014, but the BJP’s ‘double engine’ government allowed its return.”
Abdullah cited instances of terror attacks during the BJP’s rule, including the 2017 Amarnath pilgrim attack and the 2024 Shiv Khori pilgrim attack.
“They are trying to scare people, but the reality is that terrorism flourished under their watch.”
He also accused the BJP of growing unemployment, destroying Jammu and Kashmir, and dividing people on religious lines. “Except for spreading hatred and dividing people, the BJP knows no other politics.”
Abdullah questioned the Home Minister’s premature announcement of results, asking if he possessed a “magic wand” to predict the outcome. “With 40 seats still to go to polls in the final phase, how can they claim victory?”
The NC leader urged people to stand united against the BJP’s divisive policies and strengthen secular forces. “We are in direct contest with the BJP on only five seats, but they are targeting us relentlessly. This only shows their desperation.” (KNS)
