
Air India Group Set to Expand Fleet Rapidly
New Aircraft Delivery Rate to Average One Every Six Days until End of 2024
Air India Group, which includes Air India, Air India Express, AIX Connect, and Vistara, is on the verge of a substantial expansion. The group, now owned by the Tata Group, is in the process of consolidating its airline business. According to Campbell Wilson, Air India’s CEO and Managing Director, the group is gearing up for an exciting phase.
Rapid Aircraft Deliveries: Air India Group Set to Expand Fleet Rapidly
Air India Group is set to receive an average of one new aircraft every six days until the end of 2024. The group has already placed orders for 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, with deliveries set to commence in November this year. The expansion is part of Air India Group’s strategy to increase its market share and service capacity.
Mergers in Progress
Air India Express is currently merging with AirAsia India, and Vistara will be integrated with Air India. This move is expected to create synergies and strengthen the group’s position in the Indian aviation market. The merger of Air India Express and AIX Connect is near completion, with the legal processes typically taking 6-9 months. The group is aiming to finalize the merger by March next year.
Ambitious Growth Plans
Air India Express aims to double its market share in domestic and short-haul international flights within five years. The group is confident that its network integration and cross-feeding will lead to significant growth in the long term. The recent unveiling of Air India Express’s new brand identity and aircraft livery reflects its commitment to growth and expansion.
