Activist informs UNHRC; No rule of law in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir
Mahmood Kashmiri, President of the UK Europe Zone of United Kashmir People’s National Party, condemned Pakistan’s human rights abuses in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan during the 55th Session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Denouncement of Human Rights Violations
Kashmiri expressed deep concern over the lack of human rights in the occupied regions, blaming Islamabad, its agencies, military, and extremist groups for the oppressive conditions. He highlighted the absence of the rule of law and the constant harassment faced by various groups, including human rights advocates, journalists, and religious minorities.
Call for Urgent UN Intervention
Emphasizing the ongoing protests for basic rights, Kashmiri urged the UN to address these violations promptly. He cited heavy-handed crackdowns by authorities during peaceful demonstrations, leading to numerous arrests. Kashmiri also denounced Pakistan’s exploitation of natural resources for its own gain, neglecting the local populace.
Appeal for UN Action
Kashmiri called on the UN to establish a fact-finding mission to investigate human rights abuses in Pakistan, PoK, and Gilgit Baltistan. He urged immediate action to protect human rights, promote justice, and ensure accountability in the occupied regions.
