In a devastating incident on the mountainous terrain of Ramban district, tragedy struck as ten lives were lost in a fatal road accident near Battery Chashma on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The incident, occurring between 1:30 to 2:00 am today, involved a passenger cab of Tavera make that was en route from Jammu towards Srinagar.

Rescue workers confronted a grim scene as they battled adverse weather conditions and treacherous terrain to retrieve the victims. The deceased, believed to be laborers heading to Srinagar for work, were tragically found amidst the wreckage of the ill-fated vehicle, scattered along the steep slope of the thousand-foot deep gorge. Amidst heavy rainfall, rescue teams, led by authorities including ASP Ramban Gourav Mahajan, worked tirelessly to recover the bodies, amidst the challenging circumstances.

Sources revealed that the driver, possibly from Jammu, remained unidentified at the time of reporting, while the exact count of passengers aboard the vehicle couldn’t be determined due to the vehicle’s precarious position and lack of visible markings. The absence of registration details further complicated the rescue and identification process, leaving authorities grappling with the enormity of the tragedy.

Expressing grief and solidarity, local officials, including DC Ramban Baseer-ul-Haq, extended condolences to the families affected by the calamity. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh also voiced condolences, highlighting the collaborative efforts underway to manage the aftermath of the incident.
