Blinding the Sky: Iran’s Shadow War Strategy
Iran isn’t chasing jets it’s dismantling the system that keeps them alive. Early-warning radars fall silent, air defense grids fracture, and command hubs are struck with precision. Reports point to high-value targets like AN/TPY-2 radar systems linked to THAAD batteries and even airborne E-3 Sentry AWACS platforms critical “eyes and ears” of modern warfare being degraded or threatened. By hitting detection and coordination nodes first, the battlefield is reshaped before a single dogfight begins, turning air superiority into sudden vulnerability.
This is asymmetric warfare refined cheap drone swarms overwhelming defenses, precision ballistic missiles targeting infrastructure, cyber operations disrupting networks, and proxy fronts stretching the conflict across multiple theaters. Backed by underground missile facilities and a decentralized “mosaic” command structure, Iran avoids direct confrontation and instead erodes its adversaries’ operational backbone. In this model of modern war, control is not seized head-on it is quietly stripped away, leaving even the most advanced militaries exposed to pressure from every direction.
