Donald Trump Slams NATO Allies for Refusing to Support US Operations Against Iran
Donald Trump has sharply criticised members of NATO, claiming that several allied countries are unwilling to support the United States in its ongoing military operations against Iran.
In a social media post, Trump said the US had been informed by “most” NATO allies that they did not want to be involved in the conflict in the Middle East. He described the alliance as a “one-way street,” arguing that while the United States spends heavily on collective defence, its allies fail to provide support during critical moments.
The US president also asserted that American military action had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities, claiming that key components such as its navy, air force, and defence systems had been “decimated.” He further suggested that Iran’s leadership structure had been severely disrupted.
Trump went on to question the value of continued reliance on NATO, stating that the United States no longer needs assistance from the alliance. He extended this sentiment to other allies, including Japan, Australia, and South Korea, emphasizing that the US is capable of acting independently.
The remarks come at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing military operations and growing concerns about a broader regional escalation. Analysts say such statements could strain relations between the United States and its traditional allies, particularly within NATO, which has long been a cornerstone of Western security cooperation.
There has been no immediate official response from NATO leadership or member states regarding Trump’s comments.
