PAC Chairperson K.C. Venugopal Seeks Immediate Action Against BJP Spokesperson Over Death Threat to Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, September 28, 2025 — K.C. Venugopal, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding immediate and strict action against BJP spokesperson Printu Mahadev for allegedly issuing a death threat against Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

In his letter, Venugopal described Mahadev’s remarks during a televised debate on News18 Kerala—where he allegedly declared that “Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest”—as a “cold, calculated and chilling death threat.” He asserted that such words, coming from an official spokesperson of the ruling party, not only endanger Rahul Gandhi’s life but also undermine the Constitution, rule of law, and the basic security assurances guaranteed to every citizen.

Venugopal further highlighted that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), responsible for Gandhi’s security, has repeatedly raised concerns regarding threats to his safety in multiple communications. He also pointed out that one such confidential letter addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was mysteriously leaked to the media, raising doubts about the intent behind the disclosure.

“The fact that a BJP spokesperson felt emboldened enough to issue an open death threat carries the stench of a larger, sinister conspiracy,” Venugopal wrote, adding that it pointed to a deliberate attempt to cultivate violence against Rahul Gandhi.

The PAC Chairperson also criticized the spread of threats and incitement on social media platforms allegedly linked to the BJP, urging the Home Minister to clarify whether the ruling party endorsed what he described as the “politics of criminal intimidation.”

Calling Rahul Gandhi a “living embodiment of service and steadfast commitment to India’s pluralistic ethos,” Venugopal said any threat against him was not merely personal but an attack on the democratic spirit of the nation.

“The threat is not just a careless outburst of a petty functionary; it is symptomatic of a deliberately cultivated, toxic atmosphere of hate,” Venugopal cautioned. He warned that any delay or failure to act decisively would be seen as complicity and a breach of Amit Shah’s constitutional duty as Union Home Minister.
