Srinagar, Aug 29: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir on Thursday carried out searches at six locations in connection with an FIR registered against four individuals accused of duping aspirants with fake promises of MBBS admissions in Bangladesh.
Officials said the action followed a complaint alleging that a huge amount of money was collected from students and their families under the pretext of securing medical seats abroad. However, investigations revealed that the money was never deposited with any medical college.
“Preliminary probe has substantiated the allegations of cheating. A case has been registered under sections 420 and 120-B IPC for offences related to fraud and criminal conspiracy,” an official spokesperson said.
The accused have been identified as Peerzada Aabid, son of Peerzada Mohammad Nayeem, resident of Bijbehara, presently at Natipora Srinagar; Syed Wasim, son of Syed Bashir Ahmad of Pulwama, also residing at Natipora; Syed Suhail Aijaz, son of Syed Aijaz Qadri of Kokernag, presently at Bemina; and Zaigam Khan, son of Gulzar Khan of Bemina.
Investigators said that Aabid runs an educational consultancy named Europe Consultancy Centre, while Wasim, Suhail and Zaigam are owners of Overseas Consultancy.
Further investigation into the case is underway, officials added. (GK)
