Indian Coast Guard Advises Fishermen to Return to Harbour Due to Developing Low-Pressure Area
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of fishermen operating off the Andhra and Tamil Nadu coast. In response to a developing low-pressure area in the southeast and east central Bay of Bengal, ICG ships and aircraft are advising fishermen to return to the harbour to avoid adverse sea conditions.
Safety Measures Implemented
The ICG has deployed multiple ships in the waters adjacent to the Andhra and Tamil Nadu coast to protect fishermen during rough sea conditions. Coast Guard aircraft from Chennai are issuing broadcasts on radio frequencies to fishing boats operating in deep-sea areas. These advisories are provided well in advance to allow small boats and crafts to safely return to the harbour before the low-pressure system intensifies.
Collaborative Efforts for Safety
In addition to advising fishermen, the ICG has also informed the State Governments to relay the message to fishing communities along the Andhra and Tamil Nadu coasts. The safety measures extend to merchant traffic transiting through the area, with advisories to take adequate precautions against adverse sea conditions.
Preventing Loss of Life
The Indian Coast Guard has taken a proactive approach to prevent the loss of life due to cyclones or adverse sea conditions. Their efforts underscore their commitment to maritime search and rescue, making them the nodal agency for protecting mariners in distress at sea.
