Akhilesh Yadav Clarifies INDIA Alliance Scope
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav clarified that the Opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is only at the national level, and there is no alliance at the state level. He mentioned that the SP has begun declaring candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh state elections, indicating that the INDIA alliance does not apply to state elections.
Yadav expressed that had he known there would be no INDIA alliance at the state level, SP representatives would not have approached the Congress with a list for seat sharing. Previously, the SP had asked the Congress to clarify whether the alliance extended to state-level elections.
In the upcoming state elections, the SP has named 31 candidates for Madhya Pradesh and expressed its intent to field candidates on all 230 seats. The SP, traditionally a regional party, has been aiming to expand its presence outside of Uttar Pradesh and become a national party. The INDIA alliance is a collaboration of 26 Opposition parties formed to contest the 2024 elections.
