
Sanawar Polo 2025: Celebrating Legacy, Excellence & Equestrian Sport
New Delhi, Feb 17, 2025: The Old Sanawarian Society proudly presented Sanawar Polo 2025, a testament to the rich heritage and camaraderie amongst the alumni of The Lawrence School, Sanawar. The event, an exhilarating showcase of athleticism and tradition, took place at the Jaipur Polo Grounds, Delhi Race Club, New Delhi, on Sunday, Feb 16, 2025.
Col. R S ‘Pickles’ Sodhi, a highly celebrated alumni Polo player, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. First off was a Cycle Polo Exhibition Match, between Himalaya/Nilgiri (Col. HM Preeenja, Col. VS Kahlon VSM, Mr. Angad Kalaan & Bk Col Navjit S Sandhu) and Shiwalik/Vindhya (Mr AS Hundal, Mr Deepak Udar, Bk Mr Uday Kalaan and Umpire, Mr Jai Shergill).
It was time for the much-awaited marquee Polo Match, between LOWER BARNES Col VS Kahlon, VSM, Mr Deepak Udar,Mr Angad Kalaan Bk Col Navjit S Sandhu (Retd) and UPPER BARNES (Col HM Preenja, Capt (IN) AP Singh,Mr Uday Kalaan and Bk Mr Jai Shergill). Quality equestrian ability clubbed with skillful mallet-work enthralled audience. Lt Col Sameer Chaudhary & Mr Manu Mehta were the Umpires and Col Shakti Singh Rathore (Retd) were the Commentators.

The Army Pipes & Drums team kept the audience at the edge of their seats with an awe-inspiring display. The entire proceedings were conducted with clockwork precision by the expert Tournament Committee, comprising of Chairman, Mr. Rajesh Sahgal and Coordinators, Lt. Col. RK Gautam and Maj. Anant Rajpurohit.
The Presentation Party – Chief Guest Col. R S ‘Pickles’ Sodhi, President OSS, Mr. Pankaj Sapru, and senior representatives of Exotic Group, Godrej Fund Management, The Kitchen Art Co. and Juggernaut – felicitated the Winners and Runners Up of both the exhibition matches. Barnes Team lifted the Sanawar Polo 2025 Trophy.
‘Token of Appreciation’ mementos were presented by the OSS Executive Committee to the Sponsors. The guests devoured the lavish spread at the Hi-Tea. Sanawar Polo 2025 was an unforgettable celebration of legacy, sportsmanship, and camaraderie, to be remembered as the day when SANAWAR POLO, once again, emerged triumphant.
The event was graced by Chief Guest, Col. Ravinder ‘Pickles’ S Sodhi, Arjuna Awardee, along with his wife Ms. Nafisa Ali, a noted actress and social activist. The event was also graced by Mr. Rakesh Chopra, Chairman, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute , Ms. Saroj Punhani, former Dy. CAG , Mr. Ashok Bhatia, ex-MD, ITC Hotels and Mr. Vipin Sondhi, ex -MD, Ashok Leyland.
