Kishtwar, October 19, 2024: In preparation for the upcoming Karva Chauth festival, a market inspection was carried out today by officials from the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department, in collaboration with the Revenue, Municipality, and Food Safety departments.
The inspection was aimed at ensuring the availability of high-quality products and preventing any overpricing or unfair trade practices in the main market of Kishtwar’s District Headquarter.
During the inspection, officials carefully examined shops to check whether vendors were adhering to quality standards, proper labeling, and regulated pricing. The focus was on essential items that are in high demand during Karva Chauth, such as food products, cosmetics, and decorative materials.
Authorities emphasized the importance of maintaining fair prices, particularly during festive seasons when demand often spikes, making consumers more vulnerable to exploitation.
As a result of the inspection, a fine of Rs 2000 was imposed on several shopkeepers who were found guilty of overcharging customers. These violations were taken seriously, with the enforcement team reminding traders of the strict legal consequences of engaging in unfair pricing or selling substandard products.
In addition to imposing fines, the officials also took steps to educate shopkeepers about maintaining the quality of their goods and complying with pricing regulations. The traders were warned against exploiting consumers during the festive season and urged to adhere to fair trade practices.
The enforcement team stressed that such inspections will continue to ensure consumer protection and uphold market integrity, especially during times of high consumer activity.
